Bruno didn’t really understand what was going on when he got to “Out-With”, he saw a camp out at the distance from his window, but he never really knew what it was. Throughout the book Bruno starts to change his outlook on what is happening. The event that helps Bruno to understand a little bit better about the camp is when he goes to talk to Gretel about it. Gretel explains to him what type of people are in the camp, and why the fence is there. The quote that best shows what Gretel said is : “The fence isn’t there to stop us from going there. It’s to stop them from coming over here” page 182 Another quote that describes what Gretel said is: “ with the other Jews, Bruno. Didn’t you know that? That’s why they have to be kept together”.page 182. They can’t mix with us.” Bruno also starts to understad better when he goes to the other side of the fence to help Shmuel find his Papa. The quotes that best describe what Bruno thought of the camp when he went under the fence is: “ In one corner Bruno cold see three soldiers who seemed to be in charge of a group o twenty men. They were shouting at them, and ans some of the men had fallen to their knees and were remaining there with their heads in their hands.” page 208. The last quote i put is when Bruno said “I don’t think I like it here” page 208.
